Years & Years visit Cardiff

I love going to see live music and last month, I was lucky to see Fall Out Boy, Professor Green and Years & Years all in Cardiff. I think we should be grateful that so many artists now come to Cardiff so I will jump at any opportunity to see a band/artist that I really like. We need to appreciate these opportunities guys. In this post, I’m just going to talk to you guys about Years & Years.

For those of you who don’t know them yet, Years & Years are a British electronica band founded in London with hit singles like King and Desire. They’re still a relatively new band -their debut album was released earlier this year – so we went to see them in  Cardiff Student’s Union. With only one album so far, the band were only on stage for about an hour. But what a wonderful, magical hour of indie pop musical genius. Not only were the band so completely energetic onstage, sounded great live and engaged with the audience really well.

The crowd seemed to absolutely fall in love with the band throughout the evening. Despite just one album, the audience seemed to know all of the lyrics to every single song to the point where there was a unified chorus for almost all of the songs. The new single, Eyes Shut, was a perfect example of this and gave me serious goosebumps. Oh, and they even whipped out a cover of Britney Spears’ Toxic. Everyone loves a bit of Britney, I swear!

I loved how the band treated the audience as if they were their best friends. At one point, the lead singer, Olly Alexander, brought three people onstage who were busy dancing, singing and taking selfies with the band to the point where one crowd member looked completely at home onstage. It was great to see such a good atmosphere around the crowd. Although it was a small venue, this didn’t effect the performance at all. I was extremely impressed with the sound and lighting team working on the show. The lighting really helped aid the overall look and feel of this show, especially with the upbeat electronica genre of music.

Absolutely loved these guys, I can’t wait to see what they do next!
